ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS
Baseball had a rich tradition in Arizona long before talk of bringing a big-league team even started. The state has been a frequent spring training site since 1946. With a large number of people relocating to the state from the Midwest and the Northeast, as well as from California, many teams (most notably the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers) have normally had large followings in Arizona.
On March 9, 1995, Arizona was awarded a franchise to begin play for the 1998 season. A $130 million franchise fee was paid to Major League Baseball and on January 16, 1997, the Diamondbacks were officially voted into the National League.
Since their debut, the Diamondbacks have won five National League West titles, one National League Championship pennant and the 2001 World Series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks (often shortened as the D-Backs) are a professional baseball team based in Phoenix, Arizona. They play in the West Division of Major League Baseball's National League. Since the team's inception in 1998, they have played at Chase Field. The Diamondbacks have one World Series title, in 2001, becoming the fastest expansion team in the majors to win a championship, doing it in only the fourth season since their expansion in 1998.
CHASE FIELD
Chase Field is a stadium located in downtown Phoenix, Arizona and is the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball. It opened in 1998, in time for the Diamondbacks' first game as an expansion team. Chase Field was also the first stadium built in the United States with a retractable roof.
